Learning & Development Professionals Forum #18
Thursday 9 May, 2013
Our theme for the upcoming L&D Professionals Forum is 'Neuroscience of Leadership' and this will be an engaging, interactive session facilitated by Kristen Hansen of enHansen Performance. |
Tell me more about the Neuroscience of
Leadership
The
new field of Neuroscience explains how we all can increase our Critical
Thinking Skills and even Intelligence. The recent discovery of the
on-going “re-wiring” or malleability of the brain has caused us to
question traditional learning methods. Recent breakthrough studies have proven
that specialist coaching exercises can enable a person (in a relatively
short time) to change their brain’s physical structure, alter their mind’s
perceptual experiences and effect lasting changes in behavior,
expectations and choices etc.
A
new field has emerged – called NeuroLeadership. The term was developed by David
Rock
a key founder of the field to describe the convergence of applied Neuroscience and Leadership. For the first time, the science of leadership is emerging and some fascinating studies are defining new ways to lead more effectively.

Who is Kristen Hansen?
Kristen is certified as a coach with the
International Coaching Federation as well as in Emotional Intelligence and DISC
profiling. She leads the Sydney Interest Group on behalf of the NeuroLeadership
Institute, held at Google in Sydney.
Kristen
works with managers in organisations to improve leadership, coaching, resilience,
engagement and adaptability via training and coaching. Leaders for the first time have a scientific
language and strategies for the challenges they face including mental overload,
stress management, engaging in diverstiy, improving performance and dealing
with constant change.
Kristen
is currently studying for a Masters in Neuroscience of Leadership with
Middlesex Uni, UK. This neuroscience research is embedded in a framework to
enhance personal and professional leadership. Tangible, evidence-based
strategies provide leaders with the traction previously missing from
theoretical based leadership workshops. They are fascinated to realise just how
much they can change their brains to realise their own and others potential.
